Backflow Prevention

In order to comply with Georgia state law regarding safe drinking water, Dalton Utilities has implemented a Backflow Prevention and Cross Connection Control Program.

Backflow prevention is designed to protect our water supply from potential contamination due to backpressure or backsiphonage into the distribution system.

State law requires that the program include all industrial and commercial customers of Dalton Utilities.

Those customers affected are responsible for ensuring that backflow prevention devices are installed on their side of the water meter.

In accordance with state law, backflow prevention devices must be installed by a plumbing contractor currently licensed as a Master Plumber in the State of Georgia.

James SLIM Owens, Georgia Master Plumber and Georgia Certified Cross Connection Inspector, can help you determine what your backflow prevention needs and requirements are.

Backflow Prevention FAQs

What is backflow?

Backflow occurs when the flow in a water system is reversed from the normal or proper direction. This can allow contaminants and pollutants to enter our water distribution system, either from backpressure or backsiphonage.

Where is a backflow preventer installed?

How do I find out if I have a backflow preventer and who can install one if I need it?

Your local Georgia Master Plumber, James SLIM Owens can assess your plumbing needs, determine whether you already have a backflow preventer, and assist you with any backflow prevention installation you may require.
